Bay Area experimental writing 1975-80
One of the initial goals of THE GRAND PIANO was to recall and contextualize events from the second half of the nineteen seventies, a time that saw an explosion of activity in experimental writing in the Bay Area. Others too have recalled these heady days — e.g. poet/publisher Geoff Young and poet David Bromige.
Poetry readings, public talks, residencies, performances, literary presses and magazines flourished. An intense and comradely community and social life provided both backdrop and stimulus to the hectic pace of artistic activity.
We're creating this online archive to help provide as complete a record as possible of the period. If you can add to or correct any information on these pages, please contact us.
