Tom Mandel is a poet whose work combines innovative form and language with the impress of philosophy and the traditions of Jewish learning.

Mandel’s writing has appeared in periodicals around the world, in his books, and in anthologies including Postmodern American Poetry: A Norton Anthology (1st edition), Primary Trouble, In The American Tree, 49+1: nouveaux poètes americains (French), as well as multiple volumes of Best American Poetry.

Tom Mandel was born in Chicago and educated in its jazz and blues clubs and on the University of Chicago’s Committee on Social Thought. He has taught at three universities and was Director of the Poetry Center at San Francisco State University. For two decades he was an entrepreneur in Internet collaboration and social media.

Mandel has lived in New York, Paris, San Francisco and Washington DC. He now resides in a small town on the Atlantic coast.
